You don't need to be flexible to do yoga.
In fact, you don't need to be anything other than willing to give it a go!
There can be a lot of pressure around yoga. To know what you're doing, keep up with everyone else, bend a certain way or somehow arrive at your first class already being "good" at it.
That's not how we do things here.
Sam's approach is designed around the people in front of her. That might mean adapting a movement because your back feels stiff, taking things more gently because you're returning to exercise, finding a different position because something doesn't feel right or simply giving yourself permission to stop and rest.
Yoga designed around your body, not your flexibility.

Meet Sam
Yoga teacher. Wellbeing specialist. Community Advocate.
Community Yoga with Sam hasn't been built around perfect poses or Instagram yoga. It has grown through people, referrals and a belief that movement and wellbeing should feel accessible to far more of us.
Before becoming a yoga teacher, Sam built an extensive career in the charity sector, including senior leadership experience with organisations such as Barnardo's and Family Action. Her work has involved supporting families and communities, leading teams and understanding the very different challenges people can experience throughout their lives.
That experience shapes how she teaches yoga. With RYT200, ERYT200 and pre/ postnatal certifications, Sam blends Iyengar traditional Indian techniques with connection-based communication, to deliver bespoke yoga and wellbeing services.
Sam understands that everyone walking into a class brings something different with them. Different bodies, different experiences, different confidence levels and different reasons for being there.
Community Yoga with Sam brings that experience together with professional yoga and wellbeing training to create something deliberately human: a place where people can move, feel supported and belong.
Real people. Real stories. A real community.
People might first arrive because they want to move more, feel less stiff or try yoga.
But Community Yoga with Sam has become about much more than what happens on the mat. It's the conversations before class. The encouragement from the person next to you. Seeing familiar faces each week.
Celebrating someone's progress. Bringing a friend along. Having a coffee. Being noticed when you haven't been for a while. It's yoga, but it's also community.

Wellbeing for workplaces, schools and communities
The same inclusive approach Sam brings to community yoga also shapes her work with organisations.
Drawing on both her wellbeing expertise and previous senior leadership experience within the charity sector, Sam creates sessions around the needs of the people taking part rather than delivering a generic, one-size-fits-all wellbeing activity.
For businesses, that could mean a lunchtime session designed to reduce stress and get people moving, a 90-minute wellbeing workshop, regular employee sessions or a full wellbeing day.
For schools, SEND settings, charities and community organisations, programmes can be adapted around the needs, abilities and experiences of the group.
Questions before your first class?
Do I need to be flexible to do yoga?
Absolutely not. Flexibility isn't a requirement for yoga and there is no expectation that you'll be able to move in a particular way. Sam offers different options throughout classes so you can work with your body rather than against it.
I've never done yoga before. Can I come?
Yes. Complete beginners are very welcome. You don't need to know any poses or yoga terminology before you arrive. Sam will guide you through the session and you can take everything at your own pace.
Where are your yoga classes?
Community yoga classes are held at Queen Street Community Centre in Burton on Trent. We also hold classes, workshops and 1-2-1 throughout East & West Midlands. Full location, day and time information is available when you view the current class timetable.
What should I bring?
Wear something comfortable that allows you to move freely. Individual class information will tell you anything else you need to bring, but there's no need to buy specialist yoga clothing to get started.
Can yoga be adapted if I have limited mobility or feel stiff?
Sam's approach is centred around adapting movement to the person rather than expecting everyone to move in exactly the same way. If you're unsure whether a community class is appropriate for you, get in touch with Sam before booking and she can help you decide whether a class or one-to-one session would be the better starting point.
Do you offer private yoga sessions?
Yes. Sam offers personalised one-to-one yoga and wellbeing sessions for people who would prefer individual support or want to focus on their particular movement, mobility or wellbeing goals.
Do you work with businesses and other organisations?
Yes. Community Yoga with Sam works with businesses, schools, SEND settings, charities and community organisations, offering everything from individual workshops to longer-term wellbeing programmes.
